Things to see near the city of Quebec

My friend Karine that I met during Erasmus in Lund lives in Quebec. She was inviting me all the time, but it was hard to get there from Poland not having so much money. 😛 However, I applied on Camp America and I got a placement in New Hampshire. I couldn’t waste this opportunity to not see my friend. New Hampshire is on the border with Canada so after work, I decided to visit her! I didn’t regret – Quebec is just amazing and you can read Quebec content here. However, you should stay here for a bit longer (eg 3 days) to see something outside the city. And what exactly? I have some hints for you! 🙂 My friend Karine showed me all this attractions – so you have something that „locals” recommend. 🙂

How did I get to Quebec? 🙂

When I read other bloggers’ posts while preparing for a trip, I always look forward to this section. It is very important, because here you can loose or save some money!!. Therefore, I always read carefully where and how are you traveling. That is why I always share this information also with you. In this case, this issue has already been described in a previous post of Quebec city. 🙂 If you are curious, click on it.

City of Quebec and Province of Quebec

Before we start, you deserve one more little explanation. As you have noted, I always emphasize the word Quebec City. This is very important in this case, because the province in which the city of Quebec is located is also called Quebec. Therefore, it is worth mentioning whether we are talking about a province or a city. 🙂 In this content, we would rather focus on the province of Quebec, because we leave the city boundary, but we still remain in the province of Quebec. 🙂

Jacques-Cartier National Park

Let’s start from National Park of Jacques Cartier (I’m so happy that I don’t have to prounce it). 😀 The park itself is very pleasant, as you will see through its trails. There are a total of 100 km of hiking trails and 30 km of cycling routes. You can also stay in holiday homes or campsites. We decided to take on of the easiest trail, almost straight path, which you will overcome in 30-40 min. You will be rewarded with a view of the Jacques-Cartier River Valley. Upon arrival at the Park, I recommend to look into the information point, where you will grab the appropriate portion of knowledge. You can also make preliminary research here. Don’t hesitate to visit the partk after peak season. Winter in Quebec is also lovely!! 🙂 😀Jacques-Cartier National Park is located just 50 km north of Quebec (about 30 min by car).

Chutes Kabir Kouba Waterfall

Even more complicated name, but another beautiful place on your travel map. Where does this name come from? Well, these are the areas of the Indians, that is why we are having such a strange names here. It may not be as tall as the Montmorency, or as powerful as Niagara, but I guarantee you will be charmed by its wildness. During our visit the place was completely empty. The magnificent terrain gives it an amazing waterfall appearance. Perfect place for a picnic! 🙂

Montmorency Falls

Only 12 km away from Quebec city center is located the largest waterfall in the province – Montmorency. It is 84 m tall and 46 m wide and at the same time is 30 m higher than Niagara!! If you haven’t been to Niagara yet, Montmorency will surely impress you. Especially if there was a lot of rain before your visit. Then the waterfall is even more powerful. Next to the main stream of water, at least two smaller streams run down the rocks. The waterfall is on the Montmorency River, which you can admire in full glory from the footbridge over the waterfall. It is worth to go over these hundreds of stairs to find yourself just above the waterfall.

At Montmorency you will find a well-equiped tourist center, where you will also find restaurants. The entrance to the waterfall is free, but if you come by car then you have to pay for parking. 😉

Basilica of St. Anne de Beaupre

Last but not least, as you are in the area of Montmorency don’t miss to have look at St. Anne de Beaupre Basilica! The legend says that in the stormy waters at the mouth of the Saint. Lawrence river almost sank the Breton ship. It was said that it survived thanks to the intercession of St. Anne. Thankful sailors built a wooden chapel in honor of St. Anne in 1658. The place has become a pilgrim destination and to this day is an important religious sanctuary.

Don’t forget to look around Basilica. There are plenty of nice buildings! 🙂
