How to buy Deutsche Bahn Regio ticket?

4 września 2017
Deutsche Bahn is your friend!

Deutsche Bahn is certainly the best friend of all who like to travel in a group! It gives you the opportunity to admire the beautiful German towns, villages and wonderful landscapes. In Germany is better to travel by train than by bus. Trains have more cities in their offer, are more comfortable and cheaper. However, if you want to travel cheap with Deutsche Bahn, bring your friends. Already at 2 people, the costs are dropping amazingly, and at 5 prices for some may even be ridiculous! And who would have thought that the famous German railway could be friendly to a low-budget tourist? We all know that not only big cities like Munich, Berlin, Hamburg etc. are worth a visit. There are also lots of small towns, which you can reach only by train! That is why you need a Deutsche Bahn Regio ticket! Stay tuned and I will show you how does it work and how to buy this ticket. THIS CONTENT INCLUDES AN INSTRUCTION WITH IMAGES HOW TO BUY DEUTSCHE BAHN REGIO TICKET IN A TICKETMASCHINE.

Let me explain you why do you need this ticket 🙂

Imagine that you are coming to Munich for the weekend. Additionally, you want to see the Neuschwanstein and Hochenschwangau castle. In German travel agencies the cost of the trips is so expensive and you definitely won’t spend so much money! Fortunately, Deutsche Bahn has a Bayern Ticket right to get you to your dream destination much cheaper!! In our case the ticket costs 25 euros. I know it’s a small price for one person, but every next one is only 6 euros more. So if there are 2 people, you pay 31 euros, which is 15.50 euros per person! It looks better right now, right? To be more precisise, the ticket is valid during the week from 09:00 to 00:00 and you can travel as much as you want, on different routes at that time. So, for example, you can go to the Castles from Munich, but you return to eg Augsburg, and from Augsburg you go even further until 00:00

General rules

As propably noticed, regional tickets are valid only in specific region. However, there are several rules that apply to all tickets without exception:

Where can I get this ticket?:

  • Check official Internet page of Deutsche Bahn – I’ve never tried, because the ticket price is always the same, so I always buy a ticket straight from the maschine at the station. At least I’m sure that I won’t waste this ticket in case of unpredictable events.
  • As I mentioned above, you can get your ticket from the ticket maschine.
  • Ticket office – but they will charge you for the service 1-3 euro. Not at every station and sometimes big queues.

How much?:

  • Depends on region. The cheapest starts from 23 euros per person!!
  • Every next person cost 4-6 euros more.

When is valid?:

  • From Monday till Friday 09:00 AM – 03:00 AM
  • On Saturday and Sunday 00:00 AM – 03:00 w nocyAM

How to buy a ticket in the ticket machine?

As I wrote above, I have always bought a ticket like this. Thanks to that, I was able to avoid currency conversion during an internet purchase. In the case of unexpected events I didn’t lose money, because the ticket always costs the same. No matter if we buy a month earlier or the day before.

In some regions you can meet different ticket machines. Some sell only tickets for public transport in the city, but most of them (especially those with an extra screen) sell regional tickets.
