Radebeul – The Wine trail of Saxony

28 stycznia 2018
Wine town

Radebeul is a small town in Saxony, located 30 km from Dresden. It is should be known by all someliers and fans of wine, because this is the famous place in Germany where wine is produced. When the sun goes down, all vine hills are beautifully lit, which additionally adds charm to this place. Radebeul is also a perfect place for lovers. Weddings are organized in the local vineyards, as well as other exquisite celebrations. However, wine is the most important treasure in Radebeul! The tradition of viticulture in this place dates back 800 years. Therefore, we couldn’t pass this place indifferently. On our way back from Dresden, we stopped here for a short break! 🙂

How to get to Radebeul?

In my case the way was simple and easy, because I was going by car from Dresden. At the time I was on Erasmus in Leipzig and my parents came to pick me up. By the way, they wanted to explore Saxony. However, you can also get here by S-bahn going towards to Meissen Triebischtal or city bus. You can check the timetable here.

Great Green World

Despite the terrible fatigue of my parents, I managed to persuade them to take a short stop in Radebeul. We were already after visit of the Palace in Moritzburg and Dresden. Unfortunately, the journey to Radebeul didn’t turn out to be as easy as it might seem. The only thing I knew was that the winery at Wackerbath is located just next to the road from Dresden. When my dad, tired, resigned and angry 😀 wanted to go down the highway to Leipzig, we found the winery in the last moment. It was just before 7pm, but a few cars were still in the parking. During evening hours was the most beautiful view of our outstanding hills full of vines.

Such a wonderful place! 🙂

Wine shopping

If you expect a recommendation from me, you will be disappointed. First of all, I don’t remember exactly what we bought (we were here in July 2016), and secondly everyone has a different taste. I am a fan of semi-sweet and sweet wine, but parents prefer dry. That is why we decided to buy 2 bottles of semi-dry wine. I accept semi-dry wine, so I was ok with this choice. Especially, since both white and pink wine were delicious! 😀 Unfortunately, prices in this place are not the cheapest. From what I remember the cheapest wine starts from 7 euros up. Our wine cost something around 10 euros. We were also very lucky, because we came to the store literally 5 minutes before closing time. 😛

A moment of forgetfulness

After successful shopping, we went on a 15-minute walk through the vineyards. It’s not a lot of time, but it’s better than nothing! This area is under protection and belongs to the most beautiful in all of Europe. During your walk in vineyards, check also the Wackerbath Palace. It was erected at the beginning of the 18th century by the order of August Christoph von Count von Wackerbarth. With time, the palace became a synonym of luxury and distinguished wine. The sumptuous parties organized here attracted top personalities, including King August II the Strong.

Although we spent less time in Radebeul than I am now on this content, I am so glad that I was there at least 30 minutes. Perhaps even more minutes is not needed, but I wouldn’t mind drinking some wine one the bench admiring the lovely terraces! 🙂 This place has something magical – you want to be here and enjoy this idyll.
