Top 5 beaches in Algarve!

Top 5 beaches in Algarve – is it possible at all, with so many beautiful beaches in this place? The Algarve coast is the greatest travel hit of recent times. Not only for those travelers who are looking for beautiful views, but also for those who will appreciate only the regular beach, the sun and the water. Eventually everyone will find something for themselves. During our 4 day stay in this amazing region of Portugal, we were able to visit 19 beaches. We admired them from different perspectives: from viewpoints, from the beach 😀 or even from the ocean. Ok, but can the beaches in a region of about 140 km width and about 50 km lenght be so different? In this case the answer is yes! 🙂 That is why the Algarve coast is considered as one of the most beautiful in the world. I’m proud that my Europe is so beautiful! Anyway, we hardly choosed top 5. Of course, we haven’t seen all the beaches, you may disagree with this list – and it’s fine, because if everyone liked the same, then the World would be boring. 🙂

Watch the video from our entire trip of Algarve!!

Number 5 – Camilo Beach

Camilo beach is located on the famous Lagos coast. It’s a pretty popular place, and the little beach doesn’t offer too much space. I suppose, therefore, that in season it may be fragile here with the seat. We visited the beaches in May, so some people were already there, but it wasn’t that crowded. Why did we choose this beach? Well, just look at the view from above. You descend the stairs among the fiery cliffs, onto the sandy beach that is striking by the gentle waves of the turquoise ocean. Fairy tale, right? One of the rocks has a tunnel that allows you to go to another beach. You can also swim from the first beach if the water temperature is not terrible for you. Keep your eyes wide open. Everywhere are warnings about the possibility of landslides. The effect of this phenomenon is visible under the cliffs, where are several stones – one larger, the other a little smaller. On this beach we spent about 2 hours and we liked very much.

Number 4 – Benagil Beach

By many considered as the most beautiful beach in the whole Algarve! We are talking about the beach to which we get only from the ocean side. Near this beach-cave is also the beach of the same name – Benagil. The distance between Benagil beach and Benagil cave is not a challenging one – only 800 m. For a swimmer is just a warm up, although I can’t imagine an independent trip, in the wavy and cold ocean. That is why I recommend to take a boat ride. There are many tour operators in the Algarve who will show you the Algarve from the Ocean perspective!  We choosed the Taruga company. Unfortunately, there was no possibility of entering this cave beach 🙁 . Yes, we swum very close to the shore, but don’t count on such views as on the internet. The pictures below show the only possible view from this place during this trip. Don’t take me wrong, the trip was awesome, but I regret so much that we couldn’t stand on the beach! In this case, Benagil took 4 th place 😛 It could be better if we had seen the whole beach!

Benagil Cave! 🙂

Number 3 – Ponta da Piedade

Another beach located in Lagos. Also considered by many as the most beautiful place around the Algarve. It is difficult to disagree when the yellow-orange rocks formations combines with turquoise ocean. I don’t know how tall the cliffs are in this place, but even from that height you can see clear and transparent water. I must admit that this place looks really charming. There are lots of people jumping on the cliffs in search for best photo views. But be careful. Many rocks are narrow and steep – one bad move and unhappiness ready. Here we can also rent a small boat or kayak. Just go down the stairs, pay the due fee and swim among the gorgeous rocks of the Algarve! We didn’t decide for this kind of activity, while we bought a trip to Benagil from Portimao.

Number 2 – Sao Rafael Beach

Albufeira is another region in the Algarve full of amazing beaches. One of them – Sao Rafael – fascinated us with its beautiful „rocks”. On the one hand we are dealing with quite a wide beach, and on the other is so dense „overgrown” with rocks. The transition between them can give even claustrophobic feelings. For us Sao Rafael looks a bit like the interior of the Grand Canyon. The rocks are not as red as those in the Grand Canyon, but the colors of Sao Rafael are equally beautiful! Some rock formations in this place even took the shape of frames – like they are just asking for a picture here. Although we visited this place quite relatively late and we were so tired, we spent at least 1h there. I will not mention the number of photos from this place. We couldn’t decide which place should take this beach in our Top 5. But it turned out that we liked one beach a lil bit more than Sao Rafael! 🙂

Number 1 – Monte Clerigo Beach

This is the first beach we visited. As you can see, we started our tour very successfully, since we were at the very beginning on the most beautiful beach in the Algarve. You won’t find it along the south coast. Head towards Aljezur, on the west coast of the Algarve. It’s a completely different beach and not necessarily the ones you could expect on the Algarve. It is part of the Natural Park, so its virginity can be enchanted! The beach is huge. The biggest beach we’ve seen. The waves are also much bigger here, but it may be because of the wind that was kind of annoying that day. The sand here is much brighter than in the southern part of the Algarve – I would say even gently white! The cliffs are black and much higher – they do not resemble standard Algarve images. You also rest here from tourists. Not many people were that day on the beach. It was this „otherness” of this place that made us so much to like this place. This is our number 1 in the Top 5 beaches in Algarve!

What is your Top 5? We will be happy to read your feedback on! If you are curious what else we saw on the Algarve and how we laid out our 4 day stay then >> click here <<. Remember that the Algarve is a very diverse coast. You will find here both long, wide and sandy beaches as well as the smaller ones, surrounded by powerful cliffs! Everyone will find something for themselves. The surfers liked the coast from Sagres upwards. There you will find the biggest waves in this region 🙂 Algarve, it is also full of beautiful caves, to which you can enter by boat! But, without flashlights, don’t go too deep into them. They might be scary. 😛 In any case, once you get tired of the beaches, look into the white towns of the Algarve. In them you will also find interesting places, worthy of your camera memory card! 🙂
